Riemann–Liouville integral
Builds on Gamma function
Definition
Let be real numbers, possibly , and let be a locally integrable real function on . Let be real. The Riemann–Liouville integral of order of , with lower terminal , is the function where is the gamma function.
Remarks
The integral converges for almost every , and for every when is continuous on , because is integrable near for . Example: for and , the substitution and the beta integral give . For this is . Non-example: for and , the integrand is not integrable near , so the formula defines nothing; negative orders need a derivative, as in fractional calculus. The operators satisfy the semigroup law for . For , .
