Fluid mechanics Foundations and kinematics of flow Concept
Rossby number
Summary
The Rossby number is the dimensionless number that compares the inertia of a flow with the Coriolis force due to rotation. It is the main parameter of rotating flows, in particular of the atmosphere and the oceans. When it is small, the flow is close to geostrophic balance, in which the pressure gradient balances the Coriolis force.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
