Section of a vector bundle

Definition
Let be a smooth manifold and let . A smooth vector bundle of rank over is a smooth fiber bundle with fiber and the following structure. Each fiber is a real vector space, and the local trivializations can be chosen linear on each fiber. A smooth section of is a smooth map such that that is, for every . The set of smooth sections is written .
Remarks
The zero section is a section of every vector bundle. For the trivial bundle , the sections are the maps with smooth. A smooth vector field on is a section of the tangent bundle .
Non-example: on , the map is smooth, but , so it is not a section.
Sections are added and multiplied by smooth functions pointwise, so is a module over . The same definition, without linearity, gives sections of any fiber bundle; continuous sections are defined with continuous maps.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
