Builds on MagmaSelf-distributive operation
Definition
A shelf is a magma whose operation is left self-distributive:
Remarks
Equivalently, for every the left translation is an endomorphism of . A shelf is a rack when every left translation is a bijection.
Example: let with and for all ; this is the Laver table . If , both sides equal . If , the left side is , and the right side is . So is a shelf; it is not a rack, since is not injective.
Non-example: , since for .
Some authors use right self-distributivity instead, with ; the two conventions are related by .
In Mathlib this structure is the class Shelf.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
