sl2 triple

Builds on Lie algebra

Definition

Let ๐”ค\mathfrak g be a Lie algebra over a field kk. An ๐”ฐ๐”ฉ2\mathfrak{sl}_2-triple in ๐”ค\mathfrak g is a triple (h,e,f)(h, e, f) of elements of ๐”ค\mathfrak g such that:

  1. hโ‰ 0h \ne 0.
  2. [e,f]=h[e, f] = h.
  3. [h,e]=2e[h, e] = 2e.
  4. [h,f]=โˆ’2f[h, f] = -2f.

Remarks

Example: in ๐”ฐ๐”ฉ2(k)\mathfrak{sl}_2(k), take e=E12e = E_{12}, h=E11โˆ’E22h = E_{11} - E_{22} and f=E21f = E_{21}. Then [e,f]=E11โˆ’E22=hโ‰ 0[e, f] = E_{11} - E_{22} = h \ne 0. Also he=E12he = E_{12} and eh=โˆ’E12eh = -E_{12}, so [h,e]=2e[h, e] = 2e; similarly [h,f]=โˆ’2f[h, f] = -2f.

Non-example: (h,e,0)(h, e, 0) with hโ‰ 0h \ne 0 is never an ๐”ฐ๐”ฉ2\mathfrak{sl}_2-triple, since then [e,f]=0โ‰ h[e, f] = 0 \ne h, so clause 2 fails.

If (h,e,f)(h, e, f) is an ๐”ฐ๐”ฉ2\mathfrak{sl}_2-triple, the linear map ๐”ฐ๐”ฉ2(k)โ†’๐”ค\mathfrak{sl}_2(k) \to \mathfrak g sending the standard basis to (h,e,f)(h, e, f) is a Lie algebra homomorphism. The element ee is called the nilpositive element and ff the nilnegative element of the triple. Some authors list the triple as (e,h,f)(e, h, f).

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
