Smallest prime factor

Definition

Let nn be a natural number with n≥2n \ge 2. The smallest prime factor of nn is the smallest prime number pp such that p∣np \mid n. It exists by the existence of a prime divisor.

Remarks

The smallest prime factor of nn is also the smallest divisor dd of nn with d>1d > 1. The number nn is prime if and only if its smallest prime factor is nn. If nn is composite, its smallest prime factor pp satisfies p2≤np^2 \le n. See a composite number has a prime factor at most its square root. For example, the smallest prime factor of 91=7⋅1391 = 7 \cdot 13 is 77.

Explanations

L1 human

Divide nn by 22, then by 33, then by 44, and so on. The first number that divides nn exactly is the smallest prime factor. It is always prime, because a smaller factor of it would also divide nn and would come earlier.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 4 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
