Spectral synthesis

Summary

Let GG be a locally compact abelian group with group algebra L1(G)L^1(G). Spectral synthesis asks whether a closed ideal of L1(G)L^1(G) is determined by the characters where all its Fourier transforms vanish. A closed set EE of the dual group is a set of spectral synthesis if exactly one closed ideal has EE as zero set. Wiener's Tauberian theorem is the case E=∅E = \emptyset, and points are also sets of synthesis. By Malliavin's theorem, synthesis fails for some closed set as soon as the dual group is not discrete.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
