Fluid mechanics Incompressible viscous flow Concept

Stokeslet

Summary

A Stokeslet is the flow that a point force produces in a viscous fluid governed by the Stokes equations. It is the fundamental solution of the Stokes equations, and its velocity decays like the inverse of the distance to the force. Every Stokes flow can be built by superposing Stokeslets and their derivatives, which is the basis of boundary integral methods and of slender-body theory.
