Student's t-distribution

Summary

Student's t-distribution is a continuous law on R\mathbb{R} that is symmetric about 00 and bell-shaped, like the standard normal law, but with heavier tails. It is the law of the standardized sample mean when one estimates the standard deviation from the data. The node Student's t-distribution gives the precise definition.

Remarks

William Sealy Gosset published the distribution in 1908 under the pen name "Student".

What this node needs for W2
  • edge instance_of in: at least two examples (0 of 2)
  • edge not_instance_of in: at least one non-example (0 of 1)
  • edge specializes both: the more general notions and the special cases (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
