Sublinear function
Builds on Vector space
Definition
Let be a vector space over . A sublinear function on is a map such that:
- for all real and all (positive homogeneity).
- for all (subadditivity).
Remarks
Every norm on is sublinear. For example, on satisfies for and . Every linear functional is sublinear, and so is on . The map on is not sublinear: but , so clause 1 fails. Clause 1 with and gives , so ; hence clause 1 also holds for . A sublinear function with for all is exactly a seminorm.
