Substructure
Definition
Let be a signature and let and be -structures with domains and . The structure is a substructure of , written , when the following hold.
- is a subset of .
- For each -ary function symbol , the map is the restriction of to .
- For each -ary relation symbol , .
- For each constant symbol , .
Remarks
Clause 2 forces to be closed under each , and clause 4 forces to contain each . Conversely, a nonempty subset of with these two closure properties is the domain of exactly one substructure of .
Example: in the signature , the set of even integers is closed under and and contains . So it carries a substructure of .
Non-example: the set is not the domain of a substructure of , because although . In the smaller signature , the set is the domain of a substructure of .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
