Supersolvable group
Definition
Let be a group. The group is supersolvable when it has a chain of subgroups with this property. Each is a normal subgroup of and each quotient group is cyclic.
Remarks
Example: is supersolvable with the series . Here and are normal in , and . Non-example: is not supersolvable. Its only normal subgroups are , the Klein four-group and . So the first term of such a series that differs from is or , and the factor at that step is or , which is not cyclic. Every finitely generated nilpotent group is supersolvable, and every supersolvable group is polycyclic, hence solvable. Some authors write supersoluble.
