Surgery obstruction groups

Summary

The surgery obstruction groups are the L-groups Ln(ℤ[π],w)L_n(\Z[\pi], w) of the integral group ring of a group π\pi. Here the involution is twisted by an orientation character ww. Wall showed that they contain the obstruction to turning a degree one normal map into a simple homotopy equivalence by surgery. This holds in dimensions at least 55. They depend only on the fundamental group, the orientation character and the dimension modulo 44. They are the algebraic part of the surgery exact sequence that classifies manifolds within a homotopy type.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
