Symbol class

Summary

A symbol class is a space of smooth functions a(x,ξ)a(x, \xi) of a position xx and a frequency ξ\xi. Its elements grow or decay like a fixed power of ∣ξ∣\abs{\xi}, and their derivatives in ξ\xi decay faster. The standard classes are the Hörmander classes Sρ,δmS^m_{\rho, \delta}, where mm is the order. Symbols generalise the polynomials ∑αaα(x)ξα\sum_\alpha a_\alpha(x) \xi^\alpha attached to differential operators. They are the building blocks of pseudo-differential operators and of Fourier integral operators.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
