Definition
Let be a variety of algebras and let . A Taylor term for is an -ary term such that:
- is idempotent, that is, satisfies .
- For each , satisfies an identity with and . Here every and every is one of the two variables and .
An algebra has a Taylor term if the variety it generates has one.
Remarks
Example: a semilattice term is a Taylor term of the variety of semilattices. Check: , and the identity has on the left and on the right in place . Swapping the names of and in it gives the required identity for place . Non-example: in the variety of sets with no operations, the term is idempotent but fails clause 2 for . An identity with on both sides reads , which is false for and . Every majority term and every Mal'cev term is a Taylor term. For a majority term , the identity serves places and , and handles place after renaming.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
