Tensor rank
Builds on Vector spaceTensor product of vector spacesRank of a matrix
Definition
Let be a field, let , and let be finite-dimensional vector spaces over . A simple tensor in the tensor product is a nonzero tensor of the form with . The rank of a tensor is the smallest integer such that is a sum of simple tensors. The zero tensor has rank .
Remarks
For and , , a tensor is an matrix, a simple tensor is a rank-one matrix , and the tensor rank is the rank of the matrix. Example: in with standard basis , the tensor has rank . The written sum shows rank at most . The tensor is not simple: flattening it to a matrix gives rank , while a simple tensor flattens to a matrix of rank . Non-example of rank : over , the tensor has rank , although it is a limit of tensors of rank . So the set of tensors of rank at most need not be closed, which leads to the notion of border rank. The rank of a real tensor can be larger than its rank over . Other names are canonical polyadic rank and CP rank.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
