Thermal resistance

Summary

The thermal resistance of an object is the temperature difference across it divided by the heat rate through it, in steady state. It plays the role of electrical resistance, with temperature difference for voltage and heat rate for current. Resistances in series add, and conductances in parallel add. So layered walls and insulated pipes can be treated like electric circuits.
