Definition
Let an object carry heat in steady state between two surfaces held at uniform temperatures and . Let be the heat rate, in watts, from the first surface to the second. The thermal resistance of the object between the two surfaces is Its unit is . The reciprocal is the thermal conductance.
Remarks
Example: a flat wall of thickness , area and conductivity has by the linear steady profile. So .
Non-example: the heat flux per kelvin, , is not a resistance. It is a conductance per unit area, and its unit is .
For layers in series that carry the same heat rate, the resistances add: . For paths in parallel with the same end temperatures, the conductances add.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
