Temperature
Summary
Temperature is the quantity that tells whether two systems are in thermal equilibrium: they are exactly when their temperatures are equal. Heat flows by itself from the body of higher temperature to the body of lower temperature. An empirical temperature can be read from any thermometer; the thermodynamic temperature is a scale that does not depend on the material.
