Definition
Let be a prime and let be a Noetherian ring of characteristic . Let be the set of elements of that lie in no minimal prime ideal of . For an ideal of and a power with , let be the ideal generated by the elements with . An element is in the tight closure of if there is such that for all with large enough.
Remarks
The ideal is the ideal generated by the image of under the -th power of the Frobenius endomorphism. If , then . is an ideal, , and . The ideal is tightly closed if .
Example: let be a field of characteristic , let , and let . The only minimal prime is , so , and for . So ; more generally every nilpotent element lies in .
Non-example: let and ; then . Indeed means divides , and if this holds for infinitely many then , which is not in .
