Definition
Let be a set, let be a topological space, and let be the set of all maps from to . For and an open set , put The topology of pointwise convergence on is the topology generated by the subbasis of all sets . On a subset , such as the set of continuous maps when is a space, it is the subspace topology.
Remarks
Viewing as the product , this topology is exactly the product topology. A sequence converges to in it if and only if in for every , which is pointwise convergence. The same holds for nets.
Example: on , let , and let for and . For each fixed , the numbers tend to , so in this topology.
Non-example: the discrete topology on is not the topology of pointwise convergence. In the discrete topology, the sequence above does not converge, because is open and contains no .
For an uncountable set and , the space with this topology is not first-countable, so it is not metrizable.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
