Counterexample
Let be the first infinite ordinal and the first uncountable ordinal. Give and the order topology, and let with the product topology. This is the Tychonoff plank. The deleted Tychonoff plank is the subspace . The plank is compact and Hausdorff, hence normal, but the open subspace is not normal.
Remarks
The sets and are disjoint and closed in . Let be an open set of containing . For each there is with . The supremum of the countably many is still countable, so and for every . Any open set containing contains for all large , so meets . Hence and cannot be separated, and is not normal. Since is a subspace of the compact Hausdorff space , it is a Tychonoff space; so an open subspace of a normal space need not be normal.
