Functional analysis Normed and Banach spaces Concept
Type and cotype
Summary
Type and cotype measure how far a Banach space is from a Hilbert space. They compare random sign sums with the sizes of the . A space of type makes such sums small, and a space of cotype makes them large. A theorem of Kwapień says that a Banach space has type and cotype exactly when it is isomorphic to a Hilbert space. These notions organise much of the local theory of Banach spaces, around results such as Dvoretzky's theorem.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
