Unital magma
Builds on MagmaIdentity element
Definition
Let be a magma. It is a unital magma if there is an element with and for all . Such an is an identity element of .
Remarks
The identity is unique: if and are identities, then .
Example: the set with for all and for . Both identity equations hold by construction, so this is a unital magma. It is not associative: , but .
Non-example: has no identity. If were an identity, then for all , so for every , which is impossible.
In Mathlib the class MulOneClass is a unital magma written multiplicatively.
