Universal coalgebra
Definition
Let be a functor from the category of sets to itself. An -coalgebra is a pair where is a set and is a function. The set is the carrier, or set of states, and is the structure map. A homomorphism of -coalgebras from to is a function such that . Universal coalgebra is the study of -coalgebras and their homomorphisms, for an arbitrary functor of this kind.
Remarks
Example: let be a set and , with . An -coalgebra is a set with a map , an output and a next state . The set of streams with is such a coalgebra. For every coalgebra , the map satisfies , and it is the only such map, so the streams form a final -coalgebra.
Non-example of a homomorphism: let , let with , and let with and . The map keeps the output of , but while , so the square does not commute.
The same definition, with any category in place of sets, gives the F-coalgebra.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
