Varifold
Builds on Radon measureOpen set
Definition
Let be an open set and let . Let be the Grassmannian of -dimensional linear subspaces of , with its usual compact metric topology. An -dimensional varifold in is a Radon measure on the locally compact space . The weight of is the Radon measure on given by .
Remarks
Example: let be an -dimensional submanifold that is a closed subset of , with tangent plane at . Let be the -dimensional Hausdorff measure, which is surface area on . Set for Borel sets . This is a Borel measure that is finite on compact sets, since has locally finite area, so is a varifold; its weight is restricted to . More generally, a rectifiable set with a positive density function gives a rectifiable varifold. Non-example: counting measure on a countable dense subset of is not finite on compact sets with interior, so it is not a Radon measure and not a varifold.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
