Weissenberg number

Summary

The Weissenberg number Wi\mathrm{Wi} is a dimensionless number. It compares the relaxation time of a viscoelastic fluid with the time scale of the deformation in a flow. It measures how strong elastic effects are compared with viscous effects. When Wi\mathrm{Wi} is small the fluid behaves almost like a Newtonian fluid. When it is large, elastic effects such as normal stresses and elastic instabilities dominate.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
