Word metric
Definition
Let be a group and let be a subset of that generates . The word length of is the least integer such that for some and . The word metric on with respect to is the map given by
Remarks
is a metric. It is symmetric because , and the triangle inequality holds because . It is invariant under left multiplication: for all . It equals the path distance between and in the Cayley graph of with respect to . If and are finite generating sets, there is a constant with and .
Example: let and . Then : the number is not in , so , and . So , while .
Non-example: in , the set does not generate . The number is not a sum of terms , so is not defined, and is not a real number.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
