Young measure
Builds on Probability measureMeasurable function
Definition
Let , and let be a Lebesgue measurable set. Let be the space of continuous functions that tend to at infinity. A Young measure on with values in is a family of Borel probability measures on . It must satisfy one condition: for every the function is Lebesgue measurable on .
Remarks
A sequence of measurable generates if weakly- in for every . The fundamental theorem on Young measures says that every sequence bounded in has a subsequence that generates a Young measure. Example: a measurable gives the Young measure , since is measurable. Example: on generates the constant family . Non-example: if is not measurable, then is not a Young measure. Some open has a non-measurable preimage, and is an increasing limit of functions , so some is not measurable.
