Quantum theory Quantum information theory Conjecture
Zauner's conjecture
Builds on SIC-POVM
Statement
For every integer , there exists a SIC-POVM in .
Remarks
Zauner posed the question in his 1999 doctoral thesis at the University of Vienna. He also proposed a stronger form. Let and be the shift and clock operators on , with and , where indices are taken modulo and . The stronger form says that some unit vector has orbit forming a SIC-POVM, up to phases. It adds that such a can be chosen as an eigenvector of a certain unitary of order in the Clifford group, now called the Zauner unitary.
The conjecture is open. For the regular tetrahedron on the Bloch sphere gives a SIC-POVM. Exact solutions are known in many further dimensions, and numerical solutions in many more. The known exact solutions have been linked to ray class fields of real quadratic number fields, a link to Hilbert's twelfth problem.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
