Definition
Let and be abelian categories, and assume that has enough injectives. Let be a left exact additive functor. An object of is -acyclic if for every , where are the right derived functors of . Dually, for a right exact on a category with enough projectives, is -acyclic if for every .
Remarks
Example: every injective object is -acyclic, because is an injective resolution, and applying gives a complex with no cohomology in degrees . Non-example: for on abelian groups, the group is not -acyclic, since . For , every flat module is -acyclic, since for flat and . If is a resolution by -acyclic objects, then for every .
