Definition

Let KK be a field. An algebra over KK is a vector space AA over KK with a map A×A→AA \times A \to A, (x,y)↦xy(x, y) \mapsto xy, such that for all x,y,z∈Ax, y, z \in A and a,b∈Ka, b \in K:

  1. (x+y)z=xz+yz(x + y)z = xz + yz.
  2. z(x+y)=zx+zyz(x + y) = zx + zy.
  3. (ax)(by)=(ab)(xy)(ax)(by) = (ab)(xy).

Remarks

The three conditions say that the product is KK-bilinear. So an algebra over KK is a nonassociative algebra over the ring KK. The algebra is associative if (xy)z=x(yz)(xy)z = x(yz) for all x,y,zx, y, z, commutative if xy=yxxy = yx for all x,yx, y, and unital if it has an element 11 with 1x=x1=x1x = x1 = x for all xx. Example: ℂ\C is an algebra over ℝ\R; complex multiplication distributes over addition and (ax)(by)=ab xy(ax)(by) = ab\,xy for real a,ba, b. Non-example: on ℝ2\R^2, the product (x1,x2)∗(y1,y2)=(x1y1,1)(x_1, x_2) * (y_1, y_2) = (x_1 y_1, 1) fails clause 3, since (0⋅x)∗(0⋅y)=(0,1)≠(0,0)(0 \cdot x) * (0 \cdot y) = (0, 1) \neq (0, 0).

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
