Almost split sequence
Builds on RingModule over a ringExact sequenceIndecomposable module
Definition
Let be a ring and let be a short exact sequence of left -modules. The sequence is almost split if:
- it does not split;
- every morphism that is not a split monomorphism factors as for some ;
- every morphism that is not a split epimorphism factors as for some .
Remarks
In an almost split sequence, and are indecomposable with local endomorphism rings. Example: let be the path algebra of over a field , with modules , , . The sequence does not split, since is indecomposable. For clause 3 it suffices to test indecomposable : maps from are or isomorphisms, , and maps from the projective lift. Clause 2 is checked in the same way. Non-example: the split sequence satisfies clauses 2 and 3, since is a split monomorphism and a split epimorphism, but it fails clause 1. For a finite-dimensional algebra, the left end of the almost split sequence ending at is , the Auslander–Reiten translate.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
