Camassa–Holm equation
Builds on Water waves
Definition
Let be a constant. The Camassa–Holm equation for a real function of and is With , called the momentum, it takes the equivalent form
Remarks
Example: for and , the peakon is a weak solution. It is not differentiable at the crest, so it solves the equation in the weak sense, written as , with the kernel of . For the peakon, is a point mass, since . Non-example: the equation , without the right-hand side, is an equation of Benjamin–Bona–Mahony type; it misses the terms , so it is not the Camassa–Holm equation. The two forms agree because and .
