Cattaneo–Vernotte equation
Summary
The Cattaneo–Vernotte equation is a law of heat conduction that adds a relaxation time to Fourier's law. The heat flux does not react to a temperature gradient at once, but relaxes towards the Fourier value. Combined with conservation of energy, it gives a damped wave equation for the temperature. So heat travels with a finite speed instead of the infinite speed of the heat equation.
