Compositum of fields

Summary

The compositum of two subfields EE and FF of a field Ω\Omega is the smallest subfield of Ω\Omega that contains both, written EFEF. It is the field generated by E∪FE \cup F, and when E=K(α1,…,αn)E = K(\alpha_1, \ldots, \alpha_n) it equals F(α1,…,αn)F(\alpha_1, \ldots, \alpha_n). Composita appear throughout Galois theory: the compositum of two Galois extensions is Galois, and its degree is controlled by linear disjointness. Without a common field Ω\Omega the compositum is not defined, and the tensor product of fields describes all possible ways to form one.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
