Definition

Let EE be a real topological vector space. For nβ‰₯0n \ge 0, let 𝒯n\mathcal{T}_n be the set of continuous linear maps T ⁣:E→ℝnT \colon E \to \R^n that are surjective, and let 𝒯=⋃n𝒯n\mathcal{T} = \bigcup_n \mathcal{T}_n. A cylinder set measure on EE is a family (ΞΌT)Tβˆˆπ’―(\mu_T)_{T \in \mathcal{T}} with these two properties.

  1. For each Tβˆˆπ’―nT \in \mathcal{T}_n, ΞΌT\mu_T is a probability measure on the Borel Οƒ-algebra of ℝn\R^n.
  2. If Sβˆˆπ’―mS \in \mathcal{T}_m, Tβˆˆπ’―nT \in \mathcal{T}_n and π ⁣:ℝm→ℝn\pi \colon \R^m \to \R^n is linear with T=Ο€βˆ˜ST = \pi \circ S, then ΞΌT\mu_T is the pushforward Ο€βˆ—ΞΌS\pi_* \mu_S.

Remarks

A cylinder set is a set Tβˆ’1(B)T^{-1}(B) with Tβˆˆπ’―nT \in \mathcal{T}_n and BβŠ†β„nB \subseteq \R^n Borel. Condition 2 makes the rule ΞΌ(Tβˆ’1(B))=ΞΌT(B)\mu(T^{-1}(B)) = \mu_T(B) well defined, and ΞΌ\mu is a finitely additive measure on the algebra of cylinder sets.

Example: a Borel probability measure Ξ½\nu on EE gives the cylinder set measure ΞΌT=Tβˆ—Ξ½\mu_T = T_* \nu. Condition 2 holds since Ο€βˆ—(Sβˆ—Ξ½)=(Ο€βˆ˜S)βˆ—Ξ½\pi_*(S_* \nu) = (\pi \circ S)_* \nu.

Example: let E=HE = H be a real Hilbert space and let ΞΌT\mu_T be the centered normal law on ℝn\R^n with covariance matrix TTβˆ—T T^*. Condition 2 holds, because Ο€βˆ—\pi_* of the centered normal law with covariance SSβˆ—S S^* is centered normal with covariance Ο€SSβˆ—Ο€βˆ—\pi S S^* \pi^*. This is the canonical Gaussian cylinder set measure on HH.

Non-example: on E=ℝ2E = \R^2, let every ΞΌT\mu_T with Tβˆˆπ’―1T \in \mathcal{T}_1 be the standard normal distribution N(0,1)N(0, 1). For T(x)=x1T(x) = x_1 and Tβ€²(x)=2x1T'(x) = 2 x_1, one has Tβ€²=Ο€βˆ˜TT' = \pi \circ T with Ο€(t)=2t\pi(t) = 2t, and Ο€βˆ—N(0,1)=N(0,4)β‰ N(0,1)\pi_* N(0, 1) = N(0, 4) \ne N(0, 1), so condition 2 fails.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
