statement theorem

Derivative of cosine

Statement

The cosine function is differentiable on R\mathbb{R}, and cos⁡′(x)=−sin⁡x\cos'(x) = -\sin x for all real xx.

Remarks

Differentiate the power series term by term. The derivative of (−1)nx2n(2n)!\frac{(-1)^n x^{2n}}{(2n)!} is −(−1)n−1x2n−1(2n−1)!-\frac{(-1)^{n-1} x^{2n-1}}{(2n-1)!} for n≥1n \ge 1. So sin⁡′′=−sin⁡\sin'' = -\sin and cos⁡′′=−cos⁡\cos'' = -\cos. Both functions solve f′′+f=0f'' + f = 0. Mathlib states it as Real.hasDerivAt_cos.

Explanations

L1 human

The slope of the cosine curve at xx is −sin⁡x-\sin x. The cosine curve falls where the sine is positive.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
