Distance in a graph
Definition
Let be a graph and let be vertices of . If is reachable from , the distance is the smallest length of a walk from to . If is not reachable from , then .
Remarks
A shortest walk is a path, so is also the smallest length of a path. Such a path is a geodesic. On a connected graph, is a metric: only for , it is symmetric, and it satisfies the triangle inequality.

The distance between two vertices is the smallest number of edges that you must cross to go from one to the other. In the cycle , opposite vertices have distance .
What this node needs for W2
- edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
- edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
