Mechanics of deformable solids Coupled effects Concept
Electroactive polymer
Summary
An electroactive polymer is a polymer material that changes its size or shape when it is stimulated by an electric field or an electric current. Such materials can strain much more than piezoelectric ceramics, so they are studied as artificial muscles, soft actuators and sensors. Their mechanics couples large elastic deformation with electrostatics, which makes them a model problem of electromechanical coupling in solid mechanics.
