statement corollary

Euler's identity

Statement

eiπ+1=0.e^{i \pi} + 1 = 0.

Remarks

Proof: Euler's formula with z=πz = \pi gives eiπ=cos⁡π+isin⁡π=−1e^{i \pi} = \cos \pi + i \sin \pi = -1. The identity links five constants: 00, 11, π\pi, ee and ii.

Explanations

L1 human

Walk around the unit circle from 11 for a distance of π\pi, which is half of the circle. You arrive at −1-1, so eiπ=−1e^{i \pi} = -1.

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 3 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
  • no evidence level
  1. Complex numbers object
  2. Euler's formula statement
  3. Euler's identity statement
