Example
Let be a set and let . The excluded point topology on declares a set open if or . This is a topology: and are open. A union of open sets is either or avoids , and so is a finite intersection of open sets. So is a topological space.
- The closed sets are and the sets that contain .
- is compact: the only open set that contains is , so every open cover has as a member. Then is a finite subcover.
- is connected: a clopen set that contains is open, hence equal to . A clopen set that misses is closed, hence empty.
- is a T0 space: for , the open set contains but not . For distinct , the open set separates them.
- If has at least two points, is not a T1 space, since every open set that contains contains all points.
The closed sets of this topology are exactly the open sets of the particular point topology at .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
