Expander graph
Builds on Regular graphCheeger constant
Definition
Let be an integer and let . For a finite graph with at least vertices, let be its Cheeger constant. It is the minimum of over the sets of vertices with . Here is the set of edges with exactly one end in . A finite graph is an -expander if . A family of expander graphs of degree is a sequence of finite -regular graphs such that:
- The number of vertices of tends to infinity as .
- There is such that for every .
Remarks
The complete graph is a -expander: a set of or vertices has edges leaving it, so the ratio is . The cycles do not form a family of expanders: they are -regular, and an arc of consecutive vertices has , so , and clause 2 fails. Families of expanders of every degree exist. For example, for each there is such that a random -regular graph on vertices is an -expander with probability tending to as . An equivalent spectral form uses the second largest eigenvalue of the adjacency matrix. The discrete Cheeger inequalities say for a -regular graph . So clause 2 holds if and only if the spectral gap is bounded away from .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
