Neighbourhood

Definition

Let GG be a graph with vertex set VV, and let v∈Vv \in V. The neighbourhood of vv is the set N(v)={u∈V:u∼v}N(v) = \{ u \in V : u \sim v \} of the vertices adjacent to vv. The elements of N(v)N(v) are the neighbours of vv.

Remarks

This is the open neighbourhood. It does not contain vv, because no vertex is adjacent to itself. The closed neighbourhood is N[v]=N(v)∪{v}N[v] = N(v) \cup \{v\}. The degree of vv is ∣N(v)∣|N(v)| when N(v)N(v) is finite. In the cycle with vertices 1,2,3,4,51, 2, 3, 4, 5 in this order, N(1)={2,5}N(1) = \{2, 5\}.

Explanations

L1 human

The neighbours of a vertex are the vertices joined to it by an edge. In a friendship graph, the neighbourhood of a person is the set of that person's friends.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 2 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
  • no evidence level

What depends on this

13 nodes use this node, directly or through other nodes.
