Fidelity of quantum states
Builds on Density matrixSquare root of a positive operatorTrace of a matrix
Definition
Let be a finite-dimensional complex Hilbert space, and let and be density operators on . The fidelity of and is where is the square root of a positive operator and is the trace.
Remarks
Example: let be pure. Then and , so . If is pure too, then .
Non-example: the overlap is not the fidelity for mixed states. For on , , while .
Standard properties: ; if and only if ; . Equivalently , where is the trace norm. Some authors call the square root the fidelity, so the convention must be checked.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
