Four-acceleration
Summary
The four-acceleration of a massive particle is the derivative of its four-velocity with respect to proper time. It is a four-vector orthogonal to the four-velocity in the Minkowski metric, so it is spacelike or zero. Its Minkowski length is the proper acceleration, the acceleration felt by the particle and measured by an accelerometer it carries.
