Hartmann number

Summary

The Hartmann number Ha=B0Lσ/μ\mathrm{Ha} = B_0 L \sqrt{\sigma / \mu} is the dimensionless number of magnetohydrodynamics that compares magnetic braking with viscous friction. Its square is the ratio of the Lorentz force to the viscous force. At large Hartmann number, flows of liquid metals across a magnetic field become flat in the core. They have thin boundary layers, the Hartmann layers, of thickness about L/HaL / \mathrm{Ha}.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
