Integral closure
Summary
The integral closure of a ring in a larger commutative ring is the set of elements of that are integral over . It is a subring of that contains , and it is the largest subring of that is integral over . For an integral domain , its integral closure in its own field of fractions is called its normalization. The ring of integers of a number field is the integral closure of in that field.
