Kernel pair
Definition
Let be a category and let be a morphism of . A kernel pair of is an object with morphisms such that is a pullback of and . That is:
- .
- For every object and morphisms with , there is a unique with and .
Remarks
Example: in the category of sets, with the two projections is a kernel pair. Clause 1 holds by the definition of , and for clause 2 the map is . For a group homomorphism with kernel , this is the subgroup of pairs with .
Non-example: in the category of sets, if is not injective, then satisfies clause 1 but not clause 2. Take a point and picking with ; no has and .
A morphism is a monomorphism if and only if is a kernel pair of .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
