Latent heat
Summary
Latent heat is the heat that a substance absorbs or releases during a first-order phase transition at constant temperature and pressure. Examples are the heat of fusion for melting and the heat of vaporization for boiling. It equals the jump in enthalpy, and also the temperature times the jump in entropy, between the two phases. It sets the slope of coexistence curves through the Clausius–Clapeyron relation.
